welcome

THOM PENN,
Artistic Director

Dear Friends and Loyal Supporters,

The long wait is over! The first show of Season 8 is right around the corner and we wanted to reach out to let you know some things about this season and this year’s production of Charles Dickens’ classic Christmas Carol.

This season’s theme is transformation. Transformation is central to the work we do in the theatre. Actors transform themselves into other people, designers transform open spaces into new worlds, and directors transform the written word into living stories.

Atlantic Stage is transforming, as well. We are still in the midst of constructing what will become our primary performance venue, but we have transformed another space in Myrtle Beach Mall into a theatre so that we can keep sharing our stories with you while we await the completion of that effort.

A Christmas Carol will be presented in the space between Bath & Body Works and Victoria’s Secret. You can’t miss it— it’s got Greek columns at the doorway and Atlantic Stage signs in the windows!

We know that many of you have been asking about reserved seating. We are installing the seats in our transitional space this week and will release a seating map to subscribers as soon as possible. Subscribers will have the opportunity to reserve specific seats, but our seating from now on will be general admission, because we want the opportunity to reconfigure seating to suit the needs of each production. We believe that, over time, this will enhance the audience experience by allowing for greater flexibility in artistic and design decisions. Trust us.

We are blessed by the support you’ve given us for the past seven seasons and we can’t wait for you to see what’s happening now at Atlantic Stage. Come transform with us!
